Tehran Province Quran Contest Concludes

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The 39th edition of the Quran competition of Tehran province came to an end on Thursday night at the holy shrine of Emamzadeh Abdullah (AS) in Rey, south of the Iranian capital.

Winners were announced and awarded at closing ceremony, held after the final round.

It was attended by a number of Quranic and religious officials, including Hojat-ol-Islam Hosseini, cultural deputy of the province’s Awqaf Department.

In an address, he said some 200,000 individuals took part in the preliminary stages of the contest in different categories like memorization, recitation, Tawasheeh (religious songs), and Islamic teachings,

204 contenders, 117 men and 87 women made it to the provincial stage, the cleric added.

He described the level of the contest in the provincial stage as high, especially in categories like recitation.

Mehdi Gholamnejad, who came first in recitation, recited verses from Surah al-Baqara at the event.

There were also Tawasheeh performances by the Shams group.

Winners of the provincial stage who were awarded at the ceremony will represent the province in the nationwide stage which is scheduled to be held by the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization in the northern province of Gillan in October.
