TEHRAN (IQNA) – While Saudi Arabia tries to make everyone believe that this year’s Hajj was organized with maximum success and without any problems, it has been revealed that more than 800 pilgrims have died during Hajj.

According to leaked documents of the Saudi ministry of health, at least 874 Hajj pilgrims lost their lives in Hajj for different reasons.

This is while the total number of pilgrims was significantly lower than in previous years.

Most of those who died in Hajj this year were from Saudi Arabia (239) while Egypt, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Indonesia and India lost 51, 84, 43, 31, 124 and 64 pilgrims, respectively.

Close to 1.5 million Muslims descended on the holy city of Mecca last week to perform Hajj.

Last year, the world witnessed the outright incompetence of the Saudi regime in running Hajj when the worst ever tragedy during Hajj took place in Mina.

More than 4700 pilgrims, including 465 Iranians, died on September 24, 2015, in a crush in Mina, near Mecca during the Hajj pilgrimage.

The incident came nearly two weeks after tens of Hajj pilgrims were killed in another tragic incident in Mecca.

On September 11, 2015, a massive construction crane crashed into Mecca’s Grand Mosque in stormy weather, killing at least 107 people, including 11 Iranians, and injuring 201 others.

Saudi authorities have come under fire for their inability to ensure the safety of hundreds of thousands of pilgrims who converge on Mecca for Hajj every year.
