Islamic Unity Conference Held in Guinea-Conakry
It was organized in cooperation with the Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought (FPIST) and the Iranian embassy in the African country.
More than 1500 Sunni and Shia scholars, thinkers and religious leaders from across Guinea attended the event, according to Taghrib website.
Addressing the event, Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Mahmoud Vaziri, representing a number of Shia sources of emulation, referred to the verses of the Quran on Islamic unison and underscored the need for unity among Muslims as well as unity among followers of divine faiths.
He referred to the case of the Islamic Republic of Iran as an example that proves unity and peaceful coexistence among all Muslim schools of thoughts and also among followers of different religions are possible.
He also read out a message to the conference by Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi, a grand source of emulation, in which the senior cleric described unity as one of Islam’s core messages.
Another speaker was Hojat-ol-Islam Waseti, representing the FPIST, who said the forum makes efforts such as holding this conference to help followers of different schools of thought learn more about one another and thus pave the way for enhancement of unity in the Muslim Ummah.
The Republic of Guinea, also known as Guinea-Conakry, is a country on the West coast of Africa.
Islam is the main religion in Guinea, followed by an estimated 85 percent of the population.
