Speaking to IQNA, Sheikh Munir Muhammad Aqla, who is serving as a member of panel of judges in Iran’s 34th International Holy Quran Competition, added that such Quranic events help the younger generation get acquainted with the Holy Book at an early age.

He said international Quran contests also serve as a venue for developing the Quranic skills of Qaris and memorizers of the Quran.

Sheikh Aqla further hailed Iran’s international Quran competition as one in which judgements are fair and balanced.

He said unlike similar events in some other countries where there are some outside interferences in the process of judgement, the competition in Iran is free from such interferences and partialities.

As for the competition’s regulations, he recommended that some alterations be made in the regulations, especially in the category of Quran memorization, for better assessment of the contenders’ performance.

Asked about his presence in Quranic events, Sheikh Aqla said he has served as in arbiter in international Quran contests in Belgium, the United States, Morocco, Algeria and Lebanon and this is the fourth time he serves in the panel of judges of Iran’s contest.

The 34th edition of Iran’s International Holy Quran Competition began in the capital, Tehran, on Thursday.

Some 270 Quran reciters and memorizers from 83 countries have attended the contest, and four other international Quran competitions underway in the country, namely those for women, seminary students, school students and the visually-impaired.
