TEHRAN (IQNA) – The 7th edition of a national competition on Quran memorization, and recitation was held at Kufa Mosque in Iraq.

According to the website of the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Ali (AS) holy shrine, the closing ceremony of the competition was attended by Seyyed Alauddin Mousawi, head of the Iraqi Shias Endowments Organization, Seyyed Mousa Khalkhali, head of the Office for Holy Sites in Iraq, Seyyed Mohammad Mousawi, custodian of Kufa Mosque, representatives of the Astans of the holy shrines in different parts of the country and Quran experts and elites.

Adel Yaseri, head of the Quranic Section of the mosque, said that this edition of the annual competition was held for two days with the participation of 22 Quran reciters and 12 Quran memorizers.

He added that the participation of Quran activists from Shia and Sunni schools of thought in the Quranic event conveyed the message of Islamic unity in Iraq.

Representatives from Samawah, Baghdad and Saladin Provinces won the first to the third ranks in the recitation category, while the three winners in the category of Quran memorization were contestants from Najaf, Basra and Diwaniyah.

The competition was supervised by a committee of Quran experts, including Seyyed Adel Yaseri, Karim Yaser, Fakhri Akili, Mohammad Karkhi, Ali Khafaji, Falah Zangane, Fadhil Aram and Alaa Sadeqi.
