TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iraq’s Chargé d'affaires in Iran said the Arab country’s embassy and consulates in the Islamic Republic will start issuing visas for Iranian Arbaeen pilgrims soon.

Nasir Abdul Mohsin, who has lately been charged with running the Iraqi embassy affairs in Tehran, made the remark in a meeting with head of Iran’s Arbaeen Headquarters on Saturday.

He said all the offices set up to issue the visas will work 24 hours a day.

Arbaeen comes 40 days after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein (AS).

Each year, a huge crowd of Shias, including Iranians, flock to Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites.

In the past few years, around 20 million pilgrims from all over the world took part in the mourning ceremonies in the Iraqi holy city marking Arbaeen.

This year, Arbaeen falls on Tuesday, October 30.
