TEHRAN (IQNA) –  Qatar’s 58th Annual School Competition on Memorizing the Holy Quran began in the capital Doha on Sunday.

Organized by the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) in coordination with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, there are 33,667 students from 404 schools (government and private) taking part in the contest.

The competition is being held at two levels of memorizing the Holy Quran; the first is for students of grade 1 to 12, on six parts of the Holy Quran from Surah Al-Shura to Surah Al-Nas. The second level is for students who memorize seven of more parts of the Holy Quran.

21 committees of juries officiate the competition at the Holy Quran Studies' section of the Department of Da'wah and Religious Guidance in the Ministry of Awqaf. More juries work in schools where over 300 students are participating.

The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has also set up 101 juries for female students, distributed over 16 women's memorization centers in the State, supervised by the Ministry's women's activity section.

The sections of Quran Memorization for Schools and the Quran Studies at the Ministry of Awqaf have announced the schedules of tests for students, which will continue until the end of February.
