TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iran strongly condemned the Zionist regime’s Friday attacks on worshippers at Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh on Saturday denounced the attacks in which tens of worshippers were injured on the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan, which marks the International Quds Day.

He said Friday’s crimes once again proved the criminal nature of the Zionist regime and the need for immediate international action to put an end to the regime’s violation of most basic humanitarian rights.

The Islamic Republic of Iran calls on related international bodies to fulfil their responsibility and act against such crimes, the spokesman said.

He also reiterated Iran’s continued support for the Palestinian nation, calling on other states, especially Islamic countries, to stand by the Palestinians against Zionist aggressors.

Israeli forces attempted to disperse worshippers inside the Haram al-Sharif area of Al-Aqsa Mosque on Friday, using stun grenades and gas bombs.

At least 178 people were injured in the attacks at Al-Aqsa Mosque, Damascus gate of Old City, and Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.

Israeli police attacked Muslim worshippers inside the Al-Aqsa Mosque, while worshippers were performing Taraweeh --special night prayers during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Israel occupied East Jerusalem al-Quds, where Al-Aqsa is located, during the 1967 Arab-Israeli war. It annexed the entire city in 1980 in a move never recognized by the international community.
