TEHRAN (IQNA) – The head of the Committee for Support of Palestinian People’s Islamic Revolution said Iraq’s religious figures and activists will not allow normalization of relations with the Zionist regime.

Hojat-ol-Islam Akhtari

Speaking at a meeting of the committee in Tehran on Monday, Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Hassan Akhtari said there are rumors about Iraq joining certain Arab countries in normalizing ties with Israel but it is not going to happen.

He said Ayatollah Sistani has termed such a move as Haram (religiously forbidden) and no one will dare to take such a step.

The cleric referred to normalization bids by countries like the UAE, Bahrain, and Morocco and said that recently there have been rumors that Algeria is also going to take such a step.

He said the US, the UK and some reactionary regimes in the region support such moves with the aim of saving the Zionist regime and breaking the resistance of the Muslim people of Palestine.

They will not succeed however, Hojat-ol-Islam Akhtari underlined.

He further stressed the need for continued support for the Palestinian nation in the face of Israeli occupation and crimes.

The Zionist occupiers continue to force Palestinians out of their homes, keep killing Palestinians and continue Judaization attempts, which are all against international laws and UN Security Council resolutions, he stated.

Hojat-ol-Islam Akhtari went on to say that an international conference was recently held in Istanbul, Turkey, with the participation of supporters of Palestine, including Iran, in which continuation of the path of resistance was emphasized.
