Al-Sahaf who has written a book about Minshawi added that the Egyptian qari's style was unique, he said, adding that he would choose Quranic Maqams proportional to the content of the verses.

One of the features of Minshawi's voice was a deep sadness that made listeners think a worshipper is praying to his God with utmost feelings, he said.

Senior Lebanese qari Hussain Hamdan was another speaker who said the style that Minshawi was following was a level above all styles of his time.

He is among the second generation of Egyptian qaris besides Abdul Basit 'Abd us-Samad and Mustafa Ismail, Hamdan added.

Having a good understanding of the Quran, Minshawi would recite using all his feelings which attract listeners, he said, adding that when somebody listens to Minshawi's recitations without seeing him, they feel that the qari is in tears due to the sadness of his style and voice.

Born on January 20, 1920, in the city of Al Minshah in Sohag Governorate of Egypt, Minshawi was raised in a family of Quran reciters.

He learned the entire Quran by heart at the age of 8 and a year later began learning Quran recitation. Minshawi soon become a prominent Qari both in the styles of Tahqiq and Tarteel.
