Quran Contest for Visually-Impaired Held in India

TEHRAN (IQNA) – A Quran competition for the visually-impaired was held in India earlier this week.

17 memorizers of the Quran attended the contest, which was the first of its kind in India, according to hgmi-org website.


It was organized in Patkal, Maharashtra State, by its Quran memorizers society in cooperation with the World Association of Quran Memorization.


A number of Quran experts from the society formed the jury panel of the contest.


The awarding ceremony was held with the participation of Hashem al-Ahdal, representative of the World Association of Quran Memorization, as well as senior religious figures such as Sheikh Khaled Ibrahim and Sheikh Qari Abdul Rahim.


Islam is the second-largest religion in India, making up some 20 percent of the country's population with about 200 million adherents.
