TEHRAN (IQNA) – Deputy of Egypt’s Al-Azhar Islamic Center Abbas Shouman objected to the screening of Iranian filmmaker Majid Miajdi’s movie “Muhammad (PBUH): Messenger of God”.

He claimed that those involved in making the films, including the actors, producers and cameramen "are all sinners".

Shouman added that promoting the movie is Haram (religiously forbidden) and anyone who watches it has committed a sin.

The Al-Azhar official went on to say that the movie’s director and actors should be sued in court for taking part in its production.

Iranians welcomed the first screening of “Muhammad (PBUH): Messenger of God” by Oscar-nominated Majidi on Thursday, August 27.

The film, the first part of Iran’s big-budget trilogy on the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), also opened the 39th edition of Montreal World Film Festival (MWFF) on the same day.

Some in Egypt, however, have been opposed to screening of the movie. They say picturing the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is Haram (religiously forbidden).

This is while Majidi has reaffirmed time and again that the Holy Prophet (PBUH) has not been pictured in the movie due to the sanctity of the sublime character of God’s last messenger.
