LONDON (IQNA) – A campaign titled “Visit My Mosque” was launched on Monday for its eighth year in the United Kingdom.

Visit My Mosque

Organized by the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB), the campaign has been described as “the biggest mosque open day event in the UK” by the organizer’s website.

More than 250 mosques across the UK are set to open their doors to their neighbors in a bid to foster connections.

“Visit My Mosque 2023 will be held on the 23rd and 24th of September. This year’s theme is ‘faith, food and friendship,’ where participating Mosques and Islamic centres will bring communities together for tea, tours and talks,” reads a statement by the MCB.

Abdullah Quilliam Society, England’s first Mosque, and the Cambridge Central Mosque, Europe’s first eco-friendly Mosque, are among the participating mosques this year.

MCB Secretary-General Zara Mohammed noted during the launch event that mosques are not just for prayer.

“Mosques are more than a prayer space; they are community hubs where diverse Muslim communities convene, institutions that can provide a range of vital services to local communities – from youth clubs and warm spaces to food banks, open to all those in need,” she said.

She hoped that people would obtain a “deeper understanding” of mosques’ histories and functions to “forge lasting bonds of friendship.”
