TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iran's embassy in Denmark has issued a strong condemnation of the recurrent desecrations of the Holy Quran within the Nordic nation.

Expressing deep concern, the embassy has highlighted its astonishment at the lack of decisive action from Copenhagen in response to these sacrilegious acts.

The diplomatic statement, released on Sunday, comes following a series of incidents where blasphemous actions have occurred in Denmark, following the endorsement of the authorities over recent weeks.

"The embassy is profoundly shocked by the apparent inertia of Danish authorities in curbing the persistent propagation of violence, manifested through incendiary and xenophobic rhetoric, coupled with affronts to the sanctity of the Holy Quran," the embassy emphasized.

The statement underscored that despite appeals from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), representing 57 Muslim nations, Denmark has failed to take concrete steps to halt the ongoing affront to Muslims worldwide, through the desecration of the Holy Quran.

In a resounding call to action, the embassy reiterated its alarm at the daily assault on the core beliefs of Muslims across the globe. It implored the Danish government to take necessary measures, aligning with their international obligations, to counter this alarming trend.

Furthermore, the embassy urged Denmark to proactively prevent further desecration of the Holy Quran, denouncing the ongoing actions as a "bizarre spectacle" camouflaged under the guise of safeguarding freedom of expression.

In a recent development, a woman, believed to have Iranian roots, was reported to have committed an act of Quran desecration right outside the Iranian embassy in Copenhagen on Sunday.

Over the past month, extremist elements have subjected the sacred Muslim scripture to multiple acts of desecration in both Sweden and Denmark. In a contentious stance, the governments of these countries have defended such acts as expressions of "freedom of speech," eliciting worldwide outrage from the Muslim community. This backlash has led several nations to summon or expel ambassadors from Sweden and Denmark.

While the Nordic nations have deplored the desecration, they have justified their inability to intervene due to constitutional protections of freedom of speech. The Organization of Islamic Cooperation has rallied its member states to explore appropriate actions, be they political or economic, against countries where such acts transpire.

Additionally, the OIC has urged global solidarity in opposing these provocative attempts, which have incited widespread offense and condemnation.
