Support for Palestine Underlined at Kuwait Int’l Quran Contest Opening Ceremony

KUWAIT CITY (IQNA) – Kuwait’s minister of Awqaf and Islamic affairs reiterated the need for Muslims to support the people of Palestine.

“We will never forget the blessed land (of Palestine) from where the last Prophet (PBUH) ascended to heaven,” Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi said, addressing the inauguration ceremony of Kuwait’s 12th international Holy Quran competition on Wednesday.

He deplored the Israeli massacre of “our brothers and sisters in faith” in the Gaza Strip and elsewhere in Palestine, saying the atrocities being committed by the Zionists have reached an indescribable point.

He added that the issue of holy al-Quds is not just a Palestinian issue but one related to the Muslim world, stressing that the people and government of Kuwait have always stood by the Palestinians and supported them.

Elsewhere in his remarks, al-Mutairi highlighted the emphasis laid on Quranic activities in Kuwait and said the international Quran award of the country has become a cultural turning point and a global achievement.

He thanked the organizers of the competition and said Kuwait attaches great importance to the promotion of Quran recitation and memorization and development of its teachings and values.

Quran reciters and memorizers from different countries are taking part in the international Quranic event, which will run through November 15.

The contenders compete in five categories featuring memorization of the Holy Quran, recitation and Tajweed at different levels.

There is also a category in which the best project serving the Holy Quran will be selected and awarded.

The competitions is being held under the patronage of Kuwait’s Emir Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
