Brunei Teachers Briefed on Quran Curriculum
The briefing provided information on the implementation of the Fixed Curriculum for Year 9 Quran (which has been updated for 2022) and Year 10 as well as the use of Quran teaching and learning materials in secondary schools as well as government and private colleges.
The briefing was delivered by Acting Director of Curriculum Development Department Ali Hamdani bin Haji Mohamad Diah as Chairperson of the Syllabus (Curriculum) Teaching and Learning Resources Division and Acting Assistant Director (Professional) of the Islamic Studies Department Pengiran Razak bin Pengiran Haji Metahir as the Deputy Chairperson of the Syllabus Division (Curriculum) Teaching and Learning Resources.
Also present were the Heads and representatives of division under the Working Committee of the Quran Learning Program in Government and Private Secondary Schools and Colleges.
The program, a joint initiative of the MoE and the MoRA was implemented in 2020 for Years 9, 10 and 11 in all government and private secondary schools with an allocation of 25 to 30 minutes per week using the transitional curriculum.
The program was then implemented in stages as a separate subject known as ‘Quran subject’ using a fixed curriculum starting in 2021 for Year 9 students.
The fixed curriculum for ‘Quran subject’ was continued for Year 10 students this year and will be extended to Year 11 in 2023.
